Series and Variants

Types of Angular Contact Ball Bearings

Since angular contact ball bearings are variants of deep groove ball bearings, any series derived from deep groove ball bearings can be made into angular contact ball bearings. The common deep groove ball bearing series include 6000, 6200, 6300, 6400, 61800, 61900, etc. The corresponding angular contact ball bearing series are 7000, 7200, 7300, 7400, 71800, 71900, etc.

According to the size of the contact angle during contact, they can be classified into C (15°), A (25°), A (30°), and B (40°).

The larger the contact angle, the higher the load capacity, but the contact stress is also greater. The choice should be balanced based on operating conditions and load requirements. Different levels of angular contact ball bearings are suitable for different operating conditions and load demands.

  • Precision Level

The selection of precision for angular contact ball bearings in China is categorized into P0, P6, P5, P4, and P2 grades. P0 is the ordinary grade produced in large quantities using standard processes and is the most economical. The precision increases progressively from P6 to P2. Precision grades mainly include dimensional accuracy and rotational accuracy, which cover factors like inner diameter, outer diameter, width, and various runouts. The choice of precision depends on the requirements of the shaft system. For high-speed, high-precision applications like electric spindles and computer hard drives, P2 or P4 grade bearings with a 15-degree contact angle are suitable. For medium-speed applications requiring greater rigidity and moderate precision, P4 or P5 grade bearings with a 25-degree contact angle are appropriate. For low-speed, high-rigidity, high-load, and long-life applications, economical P0 or P6 grade bearings with 25, 30, or 40-degree contact angles are suitable.

  • Cage Choices

For the cage material of angular contact ball bearings, options include iron, copper, aluminum alloy, and various plastics like nylon, PTFE, polyketide, and phenolic fabric. The choice depends on speed, environmental temperature, and load size. Generally, non-metallic cages are used for high-speed, low-load applications, and metallic cages for low-speed, high-load applications. High-temperature environments require metal cages, while medium-temperature environments can use plastic cages.

  • Lubrication Condition

Regarding lubrication, angular contact ball bearings generally have four types: oil-air lubrication, oil mist lubrication, oil jet lubrication, and grease lubrication. Oil-air and oil mist lubrication are suitable for ultra-high-speed applications. Oil jet and grease lubrication can be used for high-speed and general-speed applications.

When choosing grease, it’s essential to consider the bearing’s working conditions, such as speed, load, and working temperature. The amount of grease should also be determined based on these factors. For high-speed, low-load applications, the grease volume is generally controlled at 20% to 25%. Excessive grease can cause stirring heat, raising the bearing’s working temperature and potentially causing failure. For low-speed, high-load applications, more grease can be applied.
